"3+1+1" Successive Undergraduate and Postgraduate Program of State University of New York at Stony Brook

I. Introduction to Program

School of Mechanical Engineering has signed a "3+1+1" successive undergraduate and postgraduate joint cultivation agreement with the State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA, which is aimed at the major in mechanical design and manufacturing, automation and mechanical engineering of HFUT. 10 juniors of such major will be selected to study in Stony Brook for two academic years every year. After graduation, they can obtain the undergraduate degree of the original major of HFUT and the master's degree of Mechanical Engineering in Stony Brook. This program has completed the first two enrollment sessions in April 2018 and April 2019. At present, students have gone to the United States for study.

II. Implementation Form and Admission Requirements

This program is a total of 5 years, including studying at HFTU for the first 3 years and at the United States for the fourth and fifth years. During the fourth year, it is necessary to complete the corresponding courses required to graduate from HFUT at Stony Brook, and take some postgraduate courses at Stony Brook as required. Students who finally meet the graduation requirements can obtain a bachelor's degree in the original major of HFUT and a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Admission requirements for this program:

1. IELTS 6.5 or above, and individual test not less than 6; or TOEFL iBT total score above 80. GRE score not required.

2. GPA above 3.0 (or in the top 50% of the school).

3. Pass the interview and selection by Stony Brook.

Ⅲ. Introduction to Stony Brook University

State University of New York at Stony Brook, also known as Stony Brook University, was founded in 1957. It is a famous research-oriented public university in the United States, one of the 62 members of Association of American Universities (AAU), the top university alliance in North America, and enjoys the reputation of “public Ivy League”. Stony Brook University ranked 131st in the 2017 World University Comprehensive Ranking issued by US News, among which Mechanical Engineering ranked 59th in the United States.

Stony Brook University has many first-class scholars, including three Nobel Prize winners, and the winners of Fields Prize, Wolff Prize and Abel Prize. Alumni include James Simmons, Yang Zhenning, a famous nuclear physicist and Nobel Prize winner in physics, who has taught there for 37 years, and Qiu Chengtong, a famous mathematician, who also taught there.

Stony Brook University is located in the east of New York City, on the north bank of Long Island, a scenic spot on the outskirts of New York City, and adjacent to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the holy place of life sciences in the world, and the famous Brookhaven National Laboratory with which the long-term cooperation is maintained.
