On September 12, the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) released its latest data, revealing that HFUT’s “Plant & Animal Science” discipline has entered the top 1% in the ESI global rankings. This marks the addition of a new discipline to the list, following the inclusion of our 10th discipline, Physics, in the ESI top 1% in July 2024. Currently, HFUT has a total of 11 disciplines ranked in the ESI top 1%; including Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Computer Science, Agricultural Science, Earth Sciences, Environment/Ecology, Social Sciences (General), Biology & Biochemistry, Physics and Plant & Animal Science.
Among them, Engineering ranks in the top 0.041% of the ESI global standings (positioned 105th among the 2,546 research institutions in the top 1% of ESI). This discipline has contributed a total of 7,854 papers in the Web of Science over the past decade (2014-2024), with a total citation count of 106,906, averaging 13.61 citations per paper, and has 89 highly cited papers.
The Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database is one of the widely used evaluation tools for assessing the international academic standards and influence of universities, research institutions, and countries/regions worldwide. The database is updated every two months and categorizes disciplines in 22 fields, collecting data from tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand different research units globally. The latest data update was on September 12, 2024, covering the period from January 1, 2014, to June 30, 2024.
